When the husband first approached us with his list of function-over-form requirements, the designer and I immediately thought of structural insulated panel systems or SIPS. SIPS are pre-engineered wall and insulation panels that create an air infiltration and thermal barrier superior to a conventionally framed and insulated home. Result? The happy owners report that their dream home is extremely efficient to heat, has no drafts or cold spots and even seems quieter than their previous homes. One little benefit they discovered while decorating their new home is that they could hang a picture or mirror anywhere without the need to locate a stud! The solid panels will take a picture hanger anywhere.
