The owners of this lovely retirement home situated at the end of a private hillside drive insisted throughout the project that they were most interested in function over form. They are thrilled with the result-practical functionality in a beautiful home that complements its stunning setting.

When the husband first approached us with his list of function-over-form requirements, the designer and I immediately thought of structural insulated panel systems or SIPS. SIPS are pre-engineered wall and insulation panels that create an air infiltration and thermal barrier superior to a conventionally framed and insulated home. Result? The happy owners report that their dream home is extremely efficient to heat, has no drafts or cold spots and even seems quieter than their previous homes. One little benefit they discovered while decorating their new home is that they could hang a picture or mirror anywhere without the need to locate a stud! The solid panels will take a picture hanger anywhere.

Our crew was impressed with the SIPS system as well. They are a superior product that assembled well, were easy to handle and installed quickly. The quality was evident right from the start.

Rounding out the owners’ request for functionality is a gorgeous open concept living area featuring hardwood floors, high ceilings, lots of lovely windows to capture the gorgeous views, and a granite, stainless and warmly painted cook’s kitchen. The owners are especially pleased with their spacious, private master suite with its large customized walk-in closet. Function over form? This home delivered both-superior function plus lovely form!
